If I step out on my own and open a coffee shop, what do I do about insurance? Are there plans for small business, or maybe coop plans, that anyone knows about?
This is one of those post that will hopefully spark a little discussion (see previous post).
Thank you for the replies.
Peace and Good Cheers,
Marty

What kind of insurance? Are you talking about health insurance for you and your family or insurance for your customers and employees?
I would start by calling your existing insurance company and asking questions on the services they offer. Mention your planned business and what needs you require, and maybe even get a quote. If they don't have the kind of service you need, ask who might else. Referrals always help.
Any business book I've picked up says to talk to owners of other coffee shops. Most are willing to talk with you about how they got setup, and who they get their insurance from. Also check with the SBA and see if they have anyone you can call there. Remember that is also a place to get low interest seed money.
Sorry I didn't state that in the post. What I'm worried about is "medical" for the kids and myself.
As bad as the current system is, I would not have wanted to go through the last two years without it.
Check this out.

I also saw the HSA talked about in the SBA website.
Thanks Shelly for the link. I submitted the online form for a quote. I'll let you know what they say.
